RISMEDIA, July 27, 2010—Despite slowdowns in home sales across the country, California is still the nation’s hottest spot for home buying activity, with homes fetching multiple offers and selling above list price, according to the Q2 2010 Home Hunter report released by ZipRealty.
The report revealed that California was home to 91 out of the country’s 100 “hottest” zip codes, defined as those where homes were selling on average for most above list price, in Q2 2010. The report compared home sale prices to original list prices based on MLS data within 5,400 cities across 33 markets the national brokerage serves. The report also revealed that seven out of ten zip codes nationwide where homes were selling most below asking price for the same time period were located in Florida.
Additional highlights from the ZipRealty Q2 2010 Home Hunter Report include:
-Berkeley, California’s 94703 is the country’s “hottest” zip code, with homes selling on average for almost 8% above the asking price, or an additional $45,000 over list, on average.
-Winchester, Connecticut’s 06098 was the nation’s “coldest” zip code in Q2, with homes selling there on average nearly 30% under list price—an average savings of more than $200,000.
-Zip codes in California, and specifically the Bay Area, remain the “hottest” for buyer demand, including zip codes in Berkeley, Oakland and San Jose.
-The country’s “coldest markets” have warmed slightly since Q2 of 2009—with homes in the country’s 10 coldest zip codes selling for an average of 18% below asking price in Q2 of this year, as compared to an average of 22% below asking price in Q2 2009.
-High-end housing markets nationwide continue to offer relative bargains for buyers. For example, in Miami’s Palm Beach (33480), buyers paid an average of around $1.1 million for a home in Q2, an average of $232,492 below list price. In Cape Cod’s Osterville (02655), homes sold on average for 16% below asking price, or an average of $180,437 under asking.
-According to the total number of home searches on www.ZipRealty.com, Phoenix and its surrounding neighborhoods continue to be the most popular searched areas in the country.
“The hot housing market in the second quarter in California may have resulted from increased demand from the government tax incentives without a lot of homes for sale, so many home sellers received multiple bids and sold their homes over the asking prices,” said Leslie Tyler, vice president for ZipRealty. “Florida is showing some encouraging signs of improvement, as they work off the large numbers of distressed properties. Homes in Miami are even selling close to asking price, a significant change from what we’ve been seeing over the past year.”

Gazing Upon Goodness
The Importance of Seeing the Good in AllIt is important to see the good in all as there are blessings in every aspect of our reality, and the potential for grace exists in all beings. Our perception shapes the lives we lead because the universe adjusts itself almost instantly to our expectations. When we look for negativity, we are bound to come across it in abundance. Conversely, we create positive energy when we endeavor to see the goodness around us. As easy as it is to criticize the people and situations that frustrate or hurt us, we do ourselves a disservice in the process. It is important to see the good in all as there are blessings hiding in every aspect of our outer-world reality, and the potential for grace exists in all human beings. When our lives are flooded with challenges, grief, and pain, we may be tempted to believe that some individuals or incidents are simply bad. But if we look for the good in all, good reveals itself to us, easing our doubts and reminding us that the universe is a place of balance. There is a perceptible energetic shift that takes place when we choose to see the good in all. The unnecessary tension that came into being when we dwelled on negativity fades away and is replaced by sympathetic tolerance. We can forgive those that have wronged us because we recognize in them traits we admire, and we may even discover that we can bring out the good in one another. Though loss still grieves us, we recognize the beginning of a new phase of existence that abounds with fresh opportunities. Each new challenge becomes another chance to prove ourselves, and we learn to show great patience in the face of difficulty. There are few pleasures greater than gazing outward and seeing beauty, wisdom, and harmony. These are the attributes of the universe that help us to cope when we encounter their opposing forces. Since you create your reality, you make your world a better place each time you acknowledge the good in your circumstances and in the people you encounter. As you draw attention to the positive aspects of the world around you, your understanding of the affirmative nature of all existence will grow. There are few lessons you will learn in this life that will prove as instrumental to your happiness and satisfaction. In appreciating the all pervasive goodness that exists in the universe, you internalize it, making it a lasting part of your life.

Marilyn Monroe’s last house on sale for 3.6 million dollars(AFP) – 15 hours ago
LOS ANGELES — The Spanish colonial-style Hollywood home where iconic sex siren Marilyn Monroe died in 1962 is going up for sale for 3.6 million dollars, the real estate agency said Tuesday.
The one-story property, built in 1929, which spreads lavishly over 23,000 square feet (2,000 square meters) of land, is “the crown jewel” of the luxurious neighborhood of Brentwood, according to the agency’s website.
Cinematic diva Monroe lived in the house for only six months before her sleeping pill overdose death, having bought the house for 90,000 dollars.
The current owner did not permit press access to the property but allowed AFP access to take photos from behind tall gates on the secluded cul de sac.
Monroe memorabilia is highly coveted, with even a burial spot near the star’s last resting place being sold on the online auction website eBay in 2009 for 4.6 million dollars.

The cost of living in America’s most expensive metro areas may be hard for many to bear, but things could actually be much worse.
World-class commercial hubs are sprinkled across the United States, but not one U.S. city even cracked the top 25 most expensive metro areas in the world, according to the latest global survey by HR pros at Mercer.
Only four U.S. cities ranked in Mercer’s 100 most expensive cities, including Chicago, Los Angeles and New York City.
For the budget-conscious among us, the least expensive U.S. city in Mercer’s rankings is Winston-Salem, North Carolina where an average movie ticket costs $8.50, and rent for a 2-bedroom apartment is $450.
That’s a far cry from the costs associated with notoriously expensive cities like New York. The New York Times notes that it costs 18% percent more to raise a family in the surrounding ‘burbs than in NYC proper.
Which cities ranked among the most expensive cities in America? Check out the list below:
